about
Newfoundland and Labrador,
October 17th, 1986
Having their strike declared illegal due to newly-instated essential service legislation, the Newfoundland Association of Public Employees's (NAPE) membership put their families and homes on the line as they returned to the picket lines.
In the ensuing chaos, witnesses describe police dragging strikers away from the confederation building. NAPE's president and the provincial NDP leader, who had become a staunch supporter of the union's battle, were both sentenced four months in jail.
Today, back-to-work legislation hangs heavy in the holster of neoliberal administrations. And they are trigger-happy.
The labour movement's suppression and unrest is part & parcel of the struggle for liberty

lyrics
It’l t-t-t-t-take thaumaturgy to erect these profits up for this
fiscal quarter while the miracle workers dig their heels on the picket lines outside the gates of hell
With crowns of reclaimed nails atop our heads, we’ll-hang-around
Everything tends to go wrong at once
I’ve been thinking – and that’s the fucking problem
Everything
On a clear night, you can see our dreams falling like stock prices from the sky
Everything
Pitchforks and torches, like the restlessness handed down
to Allentown, where they’re closing all the factories down
It’l t-t-t-t-take thaumaturgy to erect
